Plasmon's Archival Storage Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Analysis is
one of the storage industries most complete reports on total system cost
for long-term data storage. Updated frequently with new product and pricing
information, the third edition of the report is now available.
The archive technologies selected for comparison include magnetic tape
(LTO3), magnetic disk (EMC, Centera) and Plasmon's own DVD and UDO libraries.
In order to provide a realistic TCO assessment, the 18-page report is
based on the actual requirements from the London branch of a global financial
institution with a demand for 20TB of archival storage.
The chart below summarizes the financial findings of the report by breaking
down the most significant components of cost over a three-year operating
period. The purpose of the study is to provide a balanced assessment of
actual costs so that companies implementing archive strategies can use
the results as a framework for their own appraisals.
