PLASMON
PLC
Plasmon
and IBM sign Agreement to provide Attachment support for Plasmon's Ultra
Density Optical (UDO) technology on IBM's eServer iSeries
Plasmon,
the market leader for professional optical archive solutions, today announced
the signing of an agreement with IBM. Under the terms of the agreement,
IBM will provide attachment support for Plasmon's latest G-Series libraries
with 9.1GB MO drives and the next generation UDO 5.25 inch optical drives
on IBM eServer iSeries systems. UDO media will be available in standard
5.25 inch cartridges with an initial capacity of 30GB; growing to 120GB
in both rewritable and true "write once" formats.
Plasmon
will complete certification under IBM's "Total Storage Partner"
programme, enabling iSeries customers to integrate Plasmon brand libraries
directly into their own systems. This will bring to users the benefits
of a UDO platform offering a long-term support roadmap of dramatically
increasing optical storage capacities.
Nigel
Street, CEO of Plasmon, commented:
"IBM's
iSeries customers are an important market for optical libraries and we're
pleased to be working with IBM to support such an important user base.
This new agreement will provide native support for UDO technology on the
iSeries platform and enable Plasmon to promote UDO as the future standard
in professional optical storage technology for archival applications."
